Open Forum: Suggestions for layout optimization!

I know that sometimes people get carried away with their blogs, putting in all sorts of crap, extra ads, links everywhere, cluttering things up. I switched this site over to a three-column layout because I wanted more space "above the fold" for key items, and while it feels functional to a point, it's slightly cluttered, I think.
I'd like to hear some of your opinions on this site, other sites, examples of what to do and what not to do. Peeves of yours, or favorite ideas on how a blog layout should or could be set up.
This site is constantly in some degree of change, I rearrange things here and there, sometimes big, sometimes small, but I'm never 100% satisfied with a layout. What about you?

Hey Lou: Greetings from Lodi!
Two things jump out at me: 1. Your Top Spots widget doesn't fit in the sidebar and looks bad hanging out into the margin. You can widen the column to accommodate it. 2. Nice header photo, but looks nothing like Sacramento -- or anywhere near Sacramento. Trust me. About that I know!! :-)
Drop by Colloquium again sometime!
Hey JHS, thanks for the comment! You're absolutely right about the widget. I asked them about smaller ones, and never got a reply. I've heard that altering the width of that column breaks my theme (Marinelli), so I'm a bit scared to try it. Eventually though!
As for the pics, yeah, those are the standard pics that come in the Marinelli slideshow. I'm eventually going to swap them out for my own photography. Again, another "eventually" though. Thanks for the feedback, and hope all is well out in Lodi! :D
