I Can Has Awesome Cameras? I Can Has!
I've wanted a new camera--a digital SLR--for years now. This is common knowledge to pretty much anyone who knows me. Well... The other night, my wife started asking my advice for a camera for our friend Brie. She had said that Brie wanted a camera, and she had a budget of $400, and after suggesting an Olympus e410, Rebel Xsi, Rebel 2000 (lols!), and a 20D, I had suggested the 20D, as it's the best body, best sensor, and overall most bang for the buck.
Later on, when she kept asking about camera stuff, I told my wife that I was getting bummed that someone who JUST decided they wanted a camera was getting one, and I was not a happy camper. Yeah, petty, but when you've been denied something so desired for so long, these things happen. I'm human.
My wife then says that the camera is in Napa (we're in Sacramento), and they'd be heading out there after heading to WalMart for a quick round of shopping. I stayed home, continued drinking (after a fun-filled night of Rock Band 2, Singstar, and beer at a coworker's house), and played some WoW. Nearly 4am, and she comes back, feeling horrible about me not having a camera, and she hands me a $100, saying I can buy something for my Fuji Finepix. I reply that there's nothing I need that's worth the money. She retorts with asking about buying Canon stuff for whenever I get a camera, to which I return with saying that it's not worth spending the money for not being able to use it.
Continuing to feel bad, she says she got me something at WalMart to make me feel better. She reaches into the bag and pulls out a cable, with an 1/8" plug and an RCA plug, both ends yellow. "Will this work on your Fuji?" she asks. "Hmm.. A video out cable.. Let's try, I don't think so, I think mine's a size smaller... Yep, doesn't fit."
"Okay, what about this?" she tries as she reaches into the bag to hand me a cable with a weird plug on one end, and a handle and a button on the other end. "Really? A remote shutter cable for a Canon EOS?" "And this?" she asks as she pulls out an EOS batter, followed by a charger. "Um... I'm not sure what you're getting at here..."
"Oh... well... Close your eyes!" she asks, and I comply. I open them to find a shiny "new" 20D in my hands, sans lens.
OMG!!!
Absolutely crazy, and I had some suspicions, but pretty much have learned to not get my hopes up, so I hadn't. But sure enough, Eryn had plopped a 20D in excellent condition into my hands, and finally, after all these years, I have my own Canon DSLR! Anyone who knows me knows that this has been the one thing that I've been wanting above all else. And now, I have one, so I promise my whining will end.
Now I just need lenses, flashes, and a new computer. *cheesy grin*
