Prop 8 is Winning?? How The Hell Is That Possible??

So, Obama Won. Hooray! But, being a liberal Californian, there's one other pressing matter yet to be finalized on this year's vote--Proposition 8, the ban on gay marriage that, if passed, will amend the state Constitution that will recognize only marriages between a man and a woman as valid marriages.
It's a close one, less than a 10% spread between the yays and the nays, with the people of California speaking with over--to quote director Greg Yaitanes (@GregYaitanes)--5 million votes of hate.
But the bigger question, upon looking at the ballot initiatives nationwide for various states, is how the fuck is this possible? I mean, we're California for crying out loud, the most liberal of liberals, the most forward thinking of forward thinking states. But while our rednecked bass-ackwards gay-hating douchebag half of the state is voting us into infringing upon human rights and equality, here's a roundup of what OTHER states are ALLOWING after the jump:
- Colorado is increasingly more and more Democratic, and as such is voting NO on Amendment 48: Human Life from Conception. This amendment would state that person is "alive" the moment they're conceived, which as any scientist will tell you, is not physiologically possible, as an embryo lacks the nervous system, consciousness, or brain functionality to have any sort of coherent cognition of their own existence. Then again, this qualification doesn't prevent the insane cruelty to animals in the name of "cheap food" now, does it? Anyways, if this amendment were passed, it would effectively ban all abortions. Colorado is being smart by saying NO to this crap.
- Maryland is passing Question 2: Video Lottery Systems. Video lottery, also known as slot machines, are currently not allowed commercially. If this passes (and it seems like it will) then they'll be legal. The funds from these machines will go primarily to fund education. Maryland, smart with this one, even the slots need love too!
- Michigan's moving VERY forward with Question 1: Legalizing Marijuana for Medical Use. Not only does this make it legal for medically prescribed use of happy grass, it would also allow unregistered patients and primary caregivers to assert medical reasons for using marijuana as a defense to any prosecution involving the wacky tobaccy.
- Michigan's also got another radical bill on the ballot, Question 2: Stem Cell Research. Pretty much anything involving stem cells has been one of the Churh's biggest targets, claiming that stem cells lead to cloning, cloning leads to ungodliness, which would result in the galaxy being taken over by one very, very ugly Senator, and some crazy insane clones. Michigan passing this will allow stem cell research provided they're developed for fertility purposes, and meet a few other minor criteria. Way to go, Mitten State!
- Nebraska is voting on Initiative 424: End Affirmative Action. I just looked at this about half an hour ago or so, and it was losing. It's now projected to win, ending the government-sanctioned discrimination in the workplace. And the "Out From Left Field" award goes to...
- South Dakota's Initiative 11 if passed would prohibit all abortions, except in cases where mother's life or health is at risk or in cases of rape or incest for pregnancies of less than 20 weeks. So far, it's projected to be defeated.
- And finally, Washington state's Initiative 1000: Allow Doctor-Assisted Suicide. Wha??? This amendment will "allow terminally ill, competent, adult residents of the state to request and self-administer lethal medication prescribed by a physician. The person requesting to end his or her life must be medically predicted to have six months or less to live."

Are you kidding me?? Washington is going to give people the legal right to ask their doctors to help them kill themselves, and Californians won't give gay people the right to legally get married? You have GOT to be joshing me. Really. Cloning? Weed? Gambling? All of these are more acceptable than two guys or two girls getting married to each other?
California, I believe this would be considered as an Epic Fail.
But at least you made up for the last election where you voted for Bush. Way to go, Slugger.
Also, it should be noted that other notoriously red states Arizona, Arkansas, and Florida have all passed bans on gay marriage.
Update:
- Arizona's Proposition 202: Hiring Illegal Immigrants is now on the board, losing of course. This would, if it passed, make a bunch of changes to the law prohibiting hiring illegal immigrants for workers. The proposal clarifies that only employers who have actual knowledge that an employee does not have legal status would be at risk of having their business licenses suspended or revoked. It also makes some changes involving identity theft and workers, and employers who pay "under-the-table".
