Absence, Moving, and Lack of the Internets

By Lou - Posted on 09 February 2009

Yeah, it's been a bit quiet around here the past few weeks. Why is that, you ask? Yeah, I know you're not really asking that, but for my own ego's sake, we'll just pretend you all are. Well, I've been moving. And lemme tell ya'... Moving sucks. I hate it. Although I do love moving from a smallish two bedroom one bath house in a ghetto-ish area of town to a spacious, four bedroom, two bath house in the country. Well, country-ish. It's BFE, surrounded by ghetto and tweakerville. But our little island between the two is awesome. So, why am I excited about living in an area that everyone else in Sacramento looks at me with confusion for?

Simple: It's quiet (for the most part), there's a pasture almost all around us, so we don't really have many neighbors. Most of them are cows and sheep. My wife made friends with a bull across the street, it was quite funny, actually. Even more so after she said to us "What should we name him?" like it's actually ours, and her brother pipes up with "... Simon Cow?" Hah... Yeah... Funny stuff.

So yeah, it's pretty laid back, not nearly as busy or hectic or city-like as our old neighborhood. Which is awesome. Plus, we can golf right from our front yard. Count me in!

Why else? Well, it's a 4 bedroom for just my wife and I. And the animals. So far, the cats are in love with how huge the place is compared to where we were before. Our bedroom is HUGE! Our furniture actually looks small, it's bizarre. This is the case in all the rooms, too. Our kitchen is massive, we have a brand new fridge that the in-laws bought us (it was on sale, and cheap, and while not the best, it will keep our food cold without icing over, unlike our old one--I'm happy!), we have our stand-up full freezer that was in the garage right next to the fridge, very awesome. We can actually have room for our appliances out, and still have counter space. And my wife's favorite little part, there's an InSinkErator disposal haha...

Meanwhile, our living room has plenty of room for our furniture, and the old ginormous rear-projection TV the landlord left for us. Good times! The office will have plenty of room for both desks, the new 55 gallon tank we got, my favorite couch, and more. My wife has a small little sewing room as well, which she'll use for her crafts, bills, and where some of the caged critters will be.

And the best part (well, one of them hehe), I'll have my very own room for my stuff, my toys. It's the second biggest room in the house, and so now there's the futon that used to be in the office (I wanted my couch, but oh well, good enough), my wife's 1903 Ellington (made by Baldwin) stand-up concert grand piano, all of my guitars/basses, amps, and will soon (hopefully) be home to a Mac for recording. If I can score a late-model G4 or G5 for on the cheap, then my music room is well upon it's way to becoming a Jack Conte-like haven of awesomosity. Piece by piece, I'll build myself the room of music I've always wanted. And there'll probably be a little section for my cameras, too. As I said, a room for my toys.

So I may post some photos at a later point in time, who knows. There's still a lot of work to be done, and still a very little amount that needs to be moved over. Moving with a Honda Civic isn't too terribly fun, but it works. Over a long period of time.

We're getting the cable switched over sometime soon, and will have the internets again. Doubt I'll be on that much shortly following that anyways, but at least I'll be able to check email.

Until then, important stuff will be on Twitter, of course, which is linked over to the right of this post.

Good times, good times.
