Ad system: BlogRush

After finding Entrecard, I've been looking at other new-ish advertising systems based on an exchange principle. I found one called BlogRush that is almost the same, but still quite different. Either way, it seems to generate a good amount of sticky traffic.

BlogRush is part Adsense/Adwords, part Entrecard, and part Project Wonderful. It's based upon a syndication exchange model, and seems to work pretty well. You install the BlogRush widget on your site after signing up (mine is below the MyBlogLog widget further down the page (where it says "From the Blogosphere"). The widget shows "related" syndicated posts from other blogs. Related was in quotes because it's not a contextual search that generates the related posts, but instead whatever category you place your site in. For example, my site is listed under Lifestyles subcategory "Other". Why? Because nothing else fit this place. It's part my personal blog, part news, part tips, part music (Entrecard's "Mixed Bag" category is genius, by the way!), so it doesn't fit into one single category.

Once the widget's installed and showing syndicated posts from other blogs, you receive a syndication credit for each one viewed on your site. The more syndication credits you have, the more your own posts are listed on other people's widget. Pretty decent so far, right?

From there, it allows for an extensive relationship system, allowing your invitees to sign up, and they'll help fund your syndication points as well (all the way down to ten levels deep, believe it or not!). Another great reason to work with this system, since your referred bloggers in your "network" will contribute just the same as though people saw your post linked in another blogger's widget. The theory there is that the site will spread throughout your personal network, and therefore exponentially increase your syndication. Not a bad deal at all.

When the widget is in an easy to find place on your blog, receives a lot of views, and has related or similar posts to hook your audience, then it's a pretty cool promotion tool. Even with mine being way below the fold, it's gained a pretty significant upgrade in traffic to the site, while so far not making too terribly much of an impact on bounce rate. Definitely worth the checkout.
