How I got a fairly rude DM from @scottbourne

I read a good amount of photography blogs. One of which is PhotoFocus. Love this blog, love Scott Bourne (@scottbourne. I especially love his gusto on the new convergence of HD video and DSLRs, something I've been passionate about since even hintings of the 5DmkII were floating around.

That being said, I responded to a blog post of his today via Twitter. I fully agreed with his post, and was looking to reinforce what he was stating at his post, Why Photographers Should Have A Blog Instead of Or In Addition To A Website. Excellent points, and it's something that I'd come to terms with a few months ago myself.

So I post the following on Twitter:

And the reason for what I said in the last tweet was because I felt like I was just using the reply as an excuse to put my blog out there for a prolific photographer/blogger to see. Not my intention. So I stated as such, in the follow-up tweet, in of course 140 characters or less. Not slighting the blog, nor him. So what do I receive in return? This:

I don't know what the deal here is, but it's been irking me all day. He seems like such a nice guy, but to have my first ever response from him be so rude and defensive, eh... Not too thrilled.

Anyways... Scott... If you thought I was being pissy and complainy, I'm sorry. But I'm not sure that really gives license to slam down a pretty innocuous statement from a reader with such insensitivity. But hey, I suppose if you've had everyone talking mad shit about you not allowing comments every day, I guess it'd be understandable. I've never seen anything of the sort at least that I can remember, but hey, if I managed to hit that hotbutton without intending to do so, again I'm sorry. It's just that comments, feedback, reciprocal communication... The Conversation... That's what these here intertubes are about these days, and it was a little shocking. That, and I didn't want to sound like a self-serving douchenozzle up in your Twitters. Too late for that though, looks like the 140char limit strikes again. Really though Scott, no hard feelings or insult meant or anything.

Just a hunch, but I think now I've excluded myself from all Photofocus/Scott Bourne contests from here on out. lmao.

Creating a dating site: Drupal vs Joomla

I've been around the CMS block a few times. From more "old-school" solutions such as PHP-Nuke, PostNuke, and their ilk, to Wordpress, Joomla, and now Drupal. I'm always looking for something better, easier, slicker, nicer, and more powerful yet easier. And I think I've found that in Drupal. However, Joomla's got some pretty nice features and capabilities as well. Although both seem to have one glaring omission in their power and flexibility: social dating sites.

Digg's Recommendation Engine private beta - boy does it work!

Digg's Recommendation Engine works quite well!

Digg released the Recommendation Engine into private beta today... Luckily, my account was special enough to get to sneak a peak at the beta, and have been using it all day... I came back from the store, checked Upcoming, and I see not just one, but TWO recommended submissions about the brand new news-to-me Chrono Trigger DS countdown!! omgomgomg!! This is truly a testament to me about how good this new system is.

Digg's Recommendation Engine private beta - It rocks!

Shortly after seeing the digg post about the preview of the recommendation engine for digg's new upcoming section, the tab had turned on on my profile, and let me just say this: It's so much better!

All-new Yahoo Messenger 9.0 Beta hit today. Awesomeness!

Hmm... Apparently I had no clear-cut category to put this in... Either Social Media, or Web, but Social Media I think will get this one. Anyways, I digress... Today, Yahoo released their newest beta for Yahoo Messenger 9.0 Beta, and let me say so far, it's pure awesomeness! Some great streamlining of the UI, new options including the greatest status/message bar combo ever implemented, I think, and icons for people whom Yahoo calls "All-Stars" or "Power Users", or whatever.Read the whole thing...

Twitterlocal.net - Finding nearby tweets made easy!

I've been using Twitter a lot recently, and it's one of those things that's now starting to become automatic. I don't have many followers, and mostly it's me posting random crap to an audience of less than three. But it's enjoyable nonetheless, and it's a sort of chronology of what I do throughout the day.
